Market Overview

After an exceptional and tough spring, we can finally turn our sights to the new crops and start of the potato season. The yield estimations look good around Europe, so the market is in a slight standstill at the moment. In Finland the spring was cold and June was very dry, but then in July rainfall was much higher than in average. Despite, the crops look good at the moment, and the yields will be rather good if the weather conditions remain normal for the rest of the growth period. Denmark and Sweden are expecting better yields than in several years. The yields are estimated to be on a normal level in the Netherlands and Germany due to dry conditions. In France, the expectations are very good, since excessive heat has not been a problem this summer. In the Baltic states and Poland yield estimations are also on a good level. The size distributions seem to be on the larger side, which means there will be demand for baby potatoes in the coming season.
