The European Food Safety Authority Efsa has published its annual report on pesticide residues in food. The results of the 2015 analysis are excellent from the Finnish perspective: food produced in Finland is cleaner than anywhere else. This is great news for Finnish food producers, as consumers nowadays pay more and more attention to what they eat, and are willing to pay for clean and safe food. So far April has been a little colder than average in Finland, which has delayed the start of field works. Potato farmers estimate that they are about two weeks behind normal schedule. The ongoing sales season has proven that larger scale organic production stands a chance also in Finland. Until recently the market for organic potato has been the dominated by smaller local growers and a few bigger producers.
