Finnish Potato Growers will have their own association for cooperation and promotion as of Thursday the 21st of January. The association's founding meeting will be held on that day during Finnish Potato Research Institutes winter seminar. The new organization is supposed to actively promote Finnish potato to consumers and buyers as well as support potato research. The organization will receive seed funding from the Finnish state....

Central European potato markets are still quiet even though there is export demand from some Eastern European countries. The yields in e.g. the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany were eventually quite normal, even though the summer was extremely dry and hot. At the moment the supply is still quite big compared to demand. One reason is that some growers are trying to get rid of batches that might deteriorate in quality if stored for too long. Yesterday's quality analyses revealed, unsurprisingly, potatoes from both ends of the quality spectrum. There are very nice looking potatoes as well as potatoes with excellent inner quality.
