Potato is growing slower than average due to a record cold summer in the Nordic Countries. Around our office in Tyrnävä we have had only a couple of days above +20 degrees. Natural Resources Institute Finland has released preliminary statistics on cultivated acreage in Finland. The statistics show a slight increase in potato acreage from 22100 to 22300 hectares. However, potato acreage for consumption and food industry continues to decline whereas acreage for starch industry increases. Consumption potatoes and food industry combined make up 14100 ha, which shows a decline of 300 ha from last year. The same figures for starch industry are 6500 ha this year and 6100 last year....
